Generative Engine Optimization
Also known as: GEO
What is GEO?
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the work of making a brand one of the sources a generative AI assistant names and cites when it composes an answer.
GEO combines entity clarity, extractable facts and off-site corroboration. Assistants assemble answers from retrieved documents and learned associations, so the brand has to be both retrievable and widely described the same way.
Measurement is probabilistic: answers vary run to run, so GEO is tracked as citation share across many sampled prompts rather than as a single rank.
